Al-Ahliyya Amman University Organizes Free Medical Day at Al-Baqa’a Camp
The Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences at Al-Ahliyya Amman University organized a free medical day involving all its departments, under the supervision of Professor Ghaleb Ereikat, Dean of the Faculty, in cooperation with the Al-Sahabi Abdullah bin Umm Maktum Association for the Blind and Orphans. The event took place on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Al-Baqa’a Camp Services Committee headquarters.
This initiative was generously supported by Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, Chairperson of the University Board of Trustees. It involved a large number of faculty members, specialists, supervisors, and students from various departments.
Over 500 patients and their families from Al-Baqa’a Camp, Ain Al-Basha, and surrounding areas benefited from a wide range of health and therapeutic services provided during the event, including:
• Physical Therapy Department: Evaluated more than 50 cases involving back and neck pain and joint stiffness, providing treatment sessions and awareness on healthy diets for obesity, hypertension, and diabetes patients.
• Medical Laboratory Sciences Department: Conducted blood sugar, HbA1c, and blood pressure tests for over 100 individuals across various age groups under the supervision of the head of supervisors.
• Optometry Department: Dr. Baha’ Eddin Jabr performed eye exams for more than 200 patients, mainly children. Over 100 cases were referred for detailed examinations at the university’s optometry clinic, with free eyeglasses provided to those in need. Eye drops were also distributed, and necessary eye surgeries were arranged at specialized centers free of charge.
• Audiology and Speech Therapy Department: Specialists conducted speech and language screening for over 50 children, referring 15 for further assessment and enrolling them in free training programs tailored to their needs. Additionally, hearing screenings were performed for about 50 residents, with referrals made for advanced diagnostic testing and treatments, including free hearing aids, especially for children.
• Cosmetology Department: Provided an educational lecture on the importance of sunscreen use during summer, distributing skin care creams to women attendees.
Dr. Maher Al-Hourani also generously sponsored the purchase and preparation of eyeglasses distributed during the event.
At the conclusion of the day, Dr. Nizar Hamdan, President of Al-Sahabi Association, presented a commemorative plaque to Amman Al-Ahliyya University in gratitude for its outstanding contribution to this important medical initiative.
