Al-Ahliyya Amman University Hosts the Seventh Annual Festival for Iraqi Poetry

Under the patronage of H.E. Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq - Dr. Jawad Abbas - and the President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, the events of the Seventh Annual Festival for Iraqi Poetry were launched at Al-Ahliyya Amman University.At the beginning of the festival, Dr. Sadeq Hamed, the University President, gave a speech in which he welcomed the honourable attendants and directed a message of love and appreciation from Al-Ahliyya Amman University to Baghdad, the city of history, civilization, steadfastness, and challenge. He added that Jordan will remain the heart of Arabism and that the University community is delighted to have morally and scientifically distinguished Iraqi figures, and that the University is keen to provide all kinds of services to the students and to help them in their education and to overcome all the obstacles that they may face in order to go back to their country successful and proud.In turn, the Iraqi Ambassador thanked the University Presidency for this cultural festival, which is part of diverse activities which aim to promote the spirit of young people and to highlight their creativity and energy. H.E. Dr. Jawad stressed the importance of empowering young people to be creative leaders and assume their responsibilities in the future. He also called the Iraqi students to have good ethics and morals that reflect the image of the Iraqi people as they are the best ambassadors for their country.During the festival, Dr. Mohammed Al-Baldawi, the organizer of the annual ceremony and the representative of the Iraqi community at the University, expressed his pride and appreciation for holding this ceremony under the patronage of Dr. Jawad Hadi Abbas, H.E. the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq and Prof. Sadeq Hamed, the University President, with the participation of Iraqi diplomats, the Iraqi elite poets, the academic & administrative staff and the Iraqi students studying at the University, noting that the University has the largest number of Iraqi students in all disciplines.The festival included a number of standard-Arabic pomes by the most prominent poets such as Jawad Al-Shakraji for eloquent poetry, Hazem Jaber, Ahmed Abul Ezz, Lapid Hani, and Omar Al-Bayati for colloquial-Arabic poetry. At the sidelines of the Festival, the events of the opening of the Iraqi Book Exhibition, a review of a set of paintings for gifted students and a display of photographs took place.At the end of the festival, ceremonials of the participant poets, satellite channels and some representatives of news websites took place, in addition to the exchange of gifts and commemorative shields between the Ambassador and the University President.
