Al-Ahliyya Amman University Embraces the Eighth Annual Poetry Festival of the Iraqi Students
The Eighth Annual Poetry Festival of the Iraqi Students was held in the University Arena Theater under the patronage of Prof. Sadiq Hamid, the President of Al-Ahlyyah Amman University and Abd-Alsattar Al-Juniby, the representative of the Iraqi Embassy on Thursday corresponding to 22-12-2016. The event was attended by massive number of students, the Iraqi community along with the participation of a group of Iraqi poets and students from other Jordanian universities. The festival was supervised by Dr. Muhammad Al-Beldawy and the representative of the Iraqi Academic Community in collaboration with the Department of Public and International Relations at the University.Several Speeches were delivered in the Festival one of which was done by the representative of the Iraqi Academic Community who welcomed the audience. Other speeches were delivered by the President of the University and the Representative of the Iraqi Ambassador Mrs. Safiyh Al-Suheil. The speeches, which praised Iraq, its people and the participants emphasized that Iraq is the country of civilization, culture, arts, poetry and genuine heritage. Many poets such as Hazem Jaber, Labib Hany, Muhammad Raed and other young poets delivered many poems in both the Standard and Colloquial varieties of Arabic. The poems praised the people, the steadfastness, the unity, the history and the heritage of Iraq. On the sidelines of the festival, an exhibition of photographs and the Kurdish and Baghdad costumes was held in addition to showing more than three hundred book titles that deal with the history of Iraq in cooperation with publishing houses.In the Festival, participants were honored by being handed shields and certificates which acknowledge their participation and appreciation of the guest poets, the publishing houses, the media channels for the continued coverage of the festival and the attendance. During the festival, songs that praised the beloved Iraq were sung and traditional recitals were performed.
