Al-Ahliyya Amman University conducts a course entitled “Human Trafficking between International and National Laws”

Within the extracurricular activities organized by Al-Ahliyya Amman University, the Deanship of Student Affairs/Office of Career Qualification of King Abdullah II Fund organized a course entitled “Human Trafficking between International and National Laws”. Professor Inam Asha, of the National Institute of Women Solidarity and lawyer Samah Marmash of the US Lawyers and Judges Association talked about human trafficking and its illegal acts, such as threat or use of force and other forms of coercion or fraud. The problem of human trafficking or labor exploitation is exacerbating on daily basis, they noted. The numbers of trafficking victims are growing, despite the absence of accurate statistics in this respect. This course is in line with the University orientations to interact with the local community institutions that deal with such important issues, and urge the protection of human rights and elimination of the phenomenon of trafficking in human beings. The government of Jordan has amended the Labor Law to serve domestic and agricultural workers and issued a comprehensive legislation to combat trafficking. In addition, it introduced a common unit of labor inspectors and police to combat and investigate human trafficking crimes. Ms. Anam Asha and lawyer Samah Marmash thanked Al-Ahliyya Amman University for holding such courses, which aim to increase awareness among students about important community issues. At the end of the course, Ms. Anam Asha called the students to raise awareness on such significant community issues.
