Al-Ahliyya Amman Forum on Women's Mental Health and its Implications on the Family and Society

Al-Ahliyya Amman University held a forum on women's health under the title "Women's Mental Health and its Implications on the Family and Society" on Monday at Nizar Qabbani Amphitheater in partnership with the Center for Women and Social Studies at the Hashemite University, the Doha International Family Institute and the Center for Women's Health Care in the South. The President of the University, Prof. Dr. Sari Hamdan, stressed during his inauguration of the forum that women's mental health is one of the main pillars for care and stability of society in all its aspects, as it sheds light on the legislation and psychological, social and health services that are enhanced by the exchange of experiences between the participants in the forum, in addition to focusing on joint research in this field. For her part, the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Women's Health Center and the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, Prof. Dr. Muntaha Gharaibeh, indicated that three main axes will be addressed: legislation, social implications, and services provided to women in different sectors, where a group of Jordanian specialists and researchers will speak at the forum. She also indicated that the goals are to strengthen partnerships and come up with outputs that are applicable at the national level to promote women's health in all its aspects. The Director of the Women's Health Center, Deputy Dean of Scientific Research at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, Prof. Dr. Iman Al-Nazli, said: The Women's Health Center at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, which has been actuating its activities since last year, has been keen to provide participatory and community initiatives inside and outside the university, where workshops and awareness lectures were held for women. The university held workshops regarding domestic violence, violence against women and challenges faced by Jordanian women. Dr. Al-Nazli also indicated that one of the future plans of the center is to conduct specialized training courses and network with relevant authorities to conduct research studies in the field of women's health, noting that the topic of women's mental health will be the focus of our attention and discussions on legislation, laws, methods of prevention, treatment and services. She added: What distinguishes the forum is that it is held in partnership with the Doha International Family Institute in the State of Qatar, the Hashemite University, the Women's Health Care Center in the South, in addition to the Women's Health Center at Al-Ahliyya Amman University. The speakers at the forum addressed the topics of women’s mental disorders in different age stages and their implications on the individuals and the families, the services available to women for psychiatric, therapeutic and rehabilitative diseases, in addition to legislation and ethics of work in the field of mental health. The panel discussions of the conference were moderated by: Dr. Khaled Al-Harirat for the first axis entitled: Legislation and work ethics in the field of women's health, Prof. Dr. Iman Al-Nazli for the second axis entitled: Women’s mental disorders in different age stages and their implications on the individuals, the families and society, and Dr. Manal Tahtamoni for the third axis entitled: Services available to women for mental illnesses therapy and rehabilitation. The specialists that participated in the three panel discussions were: Dr. Moamen Al-Hadidi, member of the Board of Trustees of the National Council for Family Affairs, Ms. Reem Abu Dalbouh, Acting Commissioner to the Director of the National Center for Human Rights, Dr. Muhammad Miqdadi, Secretary of the National Council for Family Affairs, Dr. Sharifa Noman Al-Emadi, Executive Director of the Doha International Institute for Family Affairs, Dr. Tayseer Al-Shawash, Clinical Psychology Consultant, Dr. Ashraf Al-Salhi from the private sector, Dr. Randa Mahasneh from the Hashemite University, and Dr. Khaled Al-Hadidi, Director of the National Center for Mental Health, Major Rahma Jibril from the National Center for Women's Health Care, and Dr. Nafra Sahawneh from Ain Al-Basha Health Center. The panel discussions were concluded with recommendations in the field and themes of the forum to the concerned authorities and to promote women's health. The sponsor of the forum handed over commemorative shields and certificates to the participants.
