AAU plans to change its entire Bus Fleet into Zero Emission Buses.

AAU administration today announced its intention to convert entire Bus Fleet into Zero Emission Buses with in the period of Five Years in line with the university sustainability policy of Carbon management: To optimize energy management to reduce net carbonemission to protect the environment by reducing the carbon emissions. AAU has more than 100 buses in their fleet serving the commutaion of staff and students from the different part of the city. Buses are provided with a consession fees to encourage the staff and students to use it inorder to avoid the usage a personal vehicles in the campus and on the whole. Each zero emission bus will reduce carbon emissions by upwards of 270,000 pounds per year compared to diesel and CNG buses. These improvements factor in the emissions from the electricity used to power the buses. And as we shift to cleaner sources of electricity, battery electric or fuel cell buses (especially when the hydrogen is derived from solar power) become even cleaner over time.As diesel buses age, they become increasingly less efficient. A switch to zero emission busses, which require no gasoline and emit notailpipe pollution, presents a critical opportunity to slash pollution, reduce oil dependence, and make our cities cleaner. A zero emission bus uses electricity to power a battery, and a number of companies are manufacturing zero emission buses that operate without overhead wires.
