AAU Organizes the Second Olive Harvest and Pressing Campaign Initiative
In support of the local community and to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable agriculture in achieving food security, and in conjunction with Jordan's National Olive Day, our AAU, represented by the Deanship of Student Affairs and the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, organized the second edition of the Olive Harvest and Pressing Campaign last Thursday.
The event saw the enthusiastic participation of 60 students from various faculties, including international students, in collaboration with the Saudi Cultural Attaché, alongside several faculty and administrative members. The campaign was conducted in a spirit of teamwork and dedication.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Directorate of Agriculture in Salt, the General Syndicate of Olive Press Owners and Olive Producers of Jordan, Mawsim Olive Press and Production Company, and the farm of Mr. Omar Al-Najdawi.
Dr. Subhiyya Saifan, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, and Dr. Saddam Al-Awaysha, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, welcomed the participants and expressed their gratitude to Mr. Omar Al-Najdawi for hosting the event on his farm. Participants were introduced to olive harvesting methods, with demonstrations led by Dr. Murad Al-Ma'ayta.
After completing the olive harvesting, attendees moved to Mawsim Olive Press and Production Company in Zai area of Salt. There, they toured the facility and received a detailed explanation of the pressing process and the modern techniques used, provided by the company's specialized staff. The presentation covered all stages, from washing the olives to milling and finally extracting olive oil.
The event concluded with a speech by Mr. Omar Al-Najdawi, who expressed his joy and gratitude to the university delegation. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in educating future generations and commended the university's role, led by Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Prof. Sari Hamdan, University President, in fostering community development in Balqa Governorate.
Participants concluded by reciting Al-Fatiha in memory of the late Dr. Ahmad Al-Hourani, the founder of our AAU.
