AAU Hosts the National Debate Competition on Reducing the Age of Candidacy to the Parliament for 25 Years

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs organised the National Debate Competition on the Nizar Qabbani Theater. This will take place on Monday, 7/5/2018. The competition will be held in cooperation with the AAU Deanship of Student Affairs via the Youth Leaders Program (Usharek+). The team of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Al-Balqaa Applied University won the championship cup. They beat the team of the University of Science and Technology in the final debate which was about Reducing the Age of Candidacy to the Parliament for 25 Years . The competition was attended by Dr. Thabet Al-Nabulsi, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth, Professor Samar Haj Hassan, the Vice Chairman of the Independent Commission for Elections, Dr. Rula Hroub, the former MP in the Parliament, and Dr. Ali Khawaldeh, Assistant of the Minister of Political Development. Six teams of various universities participated in the National Debate Competition. Regional competitions among universities were held by the participation of 24 public and private Jordanian universities. The teams of the following universities were nominated to the final debate: Al-Isra'a University, University of Science and Technology, Amman University College, Mutah University, Technology and Engineering College and Yarmouk University. The teams debated several topics i.e. the Experience of Decentralization, the Electronic Crimes Law and the Impact of Tax Increase on the Crime Rate. The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Mustafa Atiyyat handed the university shield to Mr. Arient Sheeho, the Regional Director of the National Democratic Institute, and distributed certificates to the participating teams. The arbitrary committee members honored the first winning team and handed it the championship cup.
