AAU Hosts Global Scientific Seminar Featuring Three World-Renowned Scholars
Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) held an interactive scientific seminar on Saturday morning, focusing on medical and scientific research and academic careers. The seminar featured three of the world’s most prominent scholars and medical experts:
• Prof. Ole Petersen
• Prof. Peter Hegyi
• Prof. Shahrokh Shariat
At the opening of the seminar, AAU President Prof. Sari Hamdan warmly welcomed the distinguished international guests, emphasizing the value of the event as an exceptional opportunity for faculty members and researchers to benefit from the experiences and insights of the visiting scientists.
The seminar was attended by Vice President Prof. Ahmad Hamdan, Assistant to the President for Accreditation, Quality, and Planning Dr. Eyad Shaaban, and President’s Advisor and Dean of Graduate Studies Prof. Hadeel Al-Yaseen, alongside deans, vice-deans, department heads, and members of the research committees from various faculties.
The three professors delivered outstanding lectures in their respective fields, highlighting the latest developments in scientific and medical research, academic collaboration, and the exchange of ideas and experiences.
• Prof. Ole Petersen, Director of the Academia Europaea Cardiff Knowledge Hub at Cardiff University (UK), gave a lecture on “How to Enable High-Quality Research in Resource-Limited Countries.” He discussed strategies for conducting excellent scientific research without large budgets or advanced equipment, providing several examples of impactful studies that were accomplished with minimal resources.
• Prof. Peter Hegyi, Founder and Director of the Centre for Translational Medicine at Semmelweis University, delivered a lecture titled “From Science to Society: Translating Education and Research into Real Impact.” He emphasized the importance of aligning research with actual societal needs by establishing research schools that address real-world problems. Sharing his experience, he described how he began with high school students by creating research labs and training them in scientific methods. These students were then guided through university research programs (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD), all while maintaining a focus on practical issues in various scientific fields, particularly in cancer research. He highlighted the success of this model in Hungary and Vienna, where many outstanding students received scholarships and support to pursue advanced degrees.
• Prof. Shahrokh Shariat, Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Medical University of Vienna, presented a lecture titled “The Path to Success in Academic Work.”
His talk received strong engagement from the audience, as he shared personal insights and lessons learned from his career and from eleven of his academic peers. His guidance for academic excellence included hard work, collaboration with international institutions, a focus on research, and learning from others’ experiences.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Prof. Sari Hamdan honored the visiting scholars with commemorative university shields in recognition of their valuable contributions.
