AAU Discusses Proposes An “Anti-Corona Virus” Drug & Invents A Design of A Ventilator for Corona Virus Patients

The AAU Faculty of Pharmacy in cooperation with the Faculty of Engineering and the AAU Pharmaceutical & Diagnostic Research Center managed to complete two research projects in the laboratories of the University. One of these projects aims to discover a drug which treats “Corona Virus”, and the second is to design an artificial ventilator for the healthy quarantined Corona Virus patients.A scientific research meeting was held on 3/31/2020 under the supervision of the AAU President, Prof. Sari Hamdan and headed by Prof. Bassam Mahasneh, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering along with Prof. Mohamed Al-Tanani, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Prof. Khaled Al-Kaabneh, the Dean of Scientific Research and faculty members in the Department of Medical Engineering. During this meeting, the following issues were discussed:Firstly: Discussing the “anti-Corona virus drug which was produced at the AAU Faculty of Pharmacy under the name MELT 2015 as a Potential Covid-19 Treatment, whereby the Faculty hopes to be a panacea for the Corona Virus. It is worth mentioning that this medicine was approved by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and that its use depends on the results of further clinical tests.Secondly: Discussing the ventilator designs carried out by the AAU Faculty of Engineering to assist Corona Virus patients in the quarantine. It is worth mentioning that the cost of this device is 100 JD only and its designs are now under implementation and will be ready within the next few days.Finally: The AAU President, Prof. Sari Hamdan recommended speeding up the manufacture of this device and communicating with the concerned authorities in Jordan in order to use the medicine that was produced at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
