AAU Delegation Visits the Modern University College in Ramallah

AAU delegation visited the Modern University College at its headquarters in Ramallah, Palestine, to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation between the two academic institutions. The delegation included Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, the Chairman of AAU Board of Directors, the University President, Prof. Sari Hamdan, Dr. Ghalib Erekat, the Director of Admission and Registration and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Mr. Samir Hijazi, accompanied by lawyer Ramzi Abu Bader, the Head of Bader Educational Institution. The delegation was received by the following esteemed figures: the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College, Engineer Sameer Al - Shuyuki, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Naser Al- Shuyuki, the Dean of the Faculty and Dr. Ribhi Bisharat, Engineer Afif Asa’eed, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Professor Lubna Subaih, the Deputy Dean for Administrative Affairs, Professor Suheir Asa’eed, the General Finance Manager, Professor Qutaiba Alawneh, the Director of Student Affairs Department, Dr. Hassan Abdullah, the Chairman of the Forum of Modern Creativity and Engineer Ayman Subeih, the Director of the Planning & Projects Department. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College, Mr. Samer Al- Shuyuki, welcomed the delegation and talked about the brotherly ties, deep friendship and cooperation that bring together the Palestinian and Jordanian peoples on the grassroots, institutional or educational levels. He said that the Modern University College since its inception in 1983 by the late lawyer Dr. Hussein Al Shuyuki has focused on vocational and technical education which over time, has constituted the future of education, especially as the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has recently begun to develop strategic plans to activate it. He added: We in the Modern University College are working on introducing new specializations, the first of its kind on the Palestinian and Arab levels such as the Legal Assistant Specialization which allows a student to work as a legal assistant and complete his/her studies through bridging. Other Specializations include Land & Land Surveying, Health Surveillance and Respiratory Care. The AAU President, Prof. Sari Hamdan, reviewed the history, development and achievements of the University as it was the first private university in Jordan and the first Jordanian university to receive students from the Palestinian areas of 1948. He also highlighted the significant development that the University achieved by obtaining local accreditations from the Ministry of Higher Education as well as international accreditations. Prof. Hamdan added that the University accepts 50% of hours for diploma students which equals to 66 hours and in some cases to 75 hours. He stressed that AAU treats students from the West Bank as Jordanian students in terms of fees and discounts.Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, the Chairman of AAU Board of Directors, stressed the importance of this meeting as it builds a clear vision for cooperation and partnership with the Modern University College regarding the exchange of visits of professors and students and cooperation in the field of scientific research, institutional assessment and bridging. In conclusion, Dr. Erekat commended the students of the University Modern College who are bridging at AAU adding that their number jumped up to sixty male and female students whose academic performance is distinguished.
