AAU Crowns the University of Jordan with the Chess Championship Cup Held on the Occasion of King Abdullah II’s Birthday

Prof. Sari Hamdan, the President of the Sport Federation of Jordanian Universities – the President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University - honored the winning teams in the Jordanian Universities Chess Championship on Wednesday, 10/2/2021 at the University campus. It is worth noting that the University of Jordan got the first place, the total cup, the single cup for male students and the single cup for female students.This championship which was held on the occasion of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s birthday, was concluded remotely on Sunday, 17/1/2021. This event was held under the patronage of Prof. Sari Hamdan and was organized by the Sport Federation of Jordanian Universities in cooperation with the Royal Jordan Chess Federation.As for the qualifying championship for male students, which was held on Saturday 16/1/2021, the University of Jordan, the German Jordanian University and the Philadelphia University qualified for the first group. The University of Science & Technology, Princess Sumaya University for Technology and Al-Ahliyya Amman University qualified for the second group for the final elimination.In the qualifying championship for female students, the University of Science & Technology, Al-Balqa Applied University and the University of Petra qualified for the first group, while the University of Jordan, the Hashemite University and the German Jordanian University qualified for the second group of the final elimination.In the male students’ championship, the University of Jordan ranked first with 46 points, the University of Science & Technology ranked second with 45 points and the Philadelphia University ranked third with 31 points.As for the female students’ championship, the University of Science &Technology ranked first with 34 points, the University of Jordan ranked second with 32 points, and the Hashemite University ranked third with 20 points.It is worth mentioning that 16 teams, male and female, from Jordanian universities that are members in the Federation participated in this championship. Each category was divided into two groups as follows:- The first group (male teams): The University of Jordan - The Hashemite University - Philadelphia University - Zarqa Private University - German Jordanian University - Tafila Technical University – Al-AlBayt University - The World Islamic Sciences University.- The second group (male teams): the University of Science &Technology- Al-Ahliyya Amman University- Isra University - Al-Balqa Applied University - Princess Sumaya University for Technology – the University of Petra - Jadara University. - The first group (female teams): the Applied Science Private University - The world Islamic Sciences University - Al-Balqa Applied University - University of Petra – the University of Science &Technology - Al-AlBayt University.- The second group (female teams): the German Jordanian University - Al-Ahliyya Amman University - Zarqa Private University – the University of Jordan - The Hashemite University. According to the initial results of the championship, the best 16 male players and 12 female players qualified to participate in the individual championship are the following:*Results of the individual male student championship:1.
