AAU and University of Anbar Organize Workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Sports
The Faculty of Educational Sciences at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, in collaboration with the University of Anbar in Iraq, held a virtual workshop titled “Modern Trends and Future Aspirations of Artificial Intelligence in Sports” on Monday, April 24.
The workshop was conducted via video conferencing under the guidance of Professor Sari Hamdan, President of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, and Dr. Maher Hourani, Chairman of the Board of Directors. Speakers included Dr. Hatem Al-Shalloul, Head of the Department of Physical and Health Education at AAU, as well as Dr. Waad Farhan and Dr. Yassin Khalaf from the University of Anbar.
Opening remarks were delivered by Professor Mohammad Mubaydeen, Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at AAU, and Professor Labib Maseekh, Dean of the College of Physical Education at the University of Anbar. Both emphasized the strong ties between the two sister institutions and the importance of such workshops in strengthening academic and research collaboration. They also highlighted the role these initiatives play in promoting modern concepts among students and faculty members alike.
Dr. Al-Shalloul presented an engaging talk on the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing athletic performance and the future direction of research in this field. He stressed the need to shift perceptions of AI—from simply functioning as traditional measurement devices to teaching these systems how to analyze data and generate insights that reflect athletes' actual conditions, ultimately leading to improvements in both physical and skill-based performance.
The workshop was attended by faculty members and graduate students from both universities.
