AAU Adopts Procedures for Evaluating Students’ Performance in the Courses Offered During the Current Semester

The AAU President, Prof Sari Hamdan, said that the University represented by the Council of Deans made a group of decisions that will ensure the success of the distance learning process in this exceptional academic semester due to the Corona Virus crisis. The President also confirmed that the faculty members at the University fulfilled their duties to the fullest extent and they are still making efforts to give their lectures remotely. Therefore, this semester is ongoing and will be considered as any regular semester. However, the student will have the right to choose the method for calculating the result of offered courses during this semester after issuing the final results. In other words, either he\she chooses to list the grade as it is or to choose the successful \ failed result. This is done so that it does not affect the student’s grade average, who believes that the distance learning process is unfair to him/her in terms of obtaining the mark he/she aspires to. Regarding this semester grades, Prof. Hamdan clarified that the works of this semester were and are still evaluated remotely. He also said that “with regard to the mid-term exams, we will wait for the end of the next two weeks. If the Jordanian government decides to allow the students’ return to university campus, the mid-term exams and the final exams will be held as usual according to the University calendar for this academic year, i.e. from 31/5/2020 to 10/6/2020. In the event that the currently imposed lockdown is extended, the mid-term exams will be conducted remotely”. The president also called on the AAU students to take the educational process seriously and take advantage of this period by developing their skills with regard to distance learning and work, as the world will change in this aspect after the Corona virus crisis. Prof Hamdan also reassured the resident students, whose residency cards expired during this crisis, and said that the University will ensure the renewal of their residency cards with the responsible authorities. As for students stranded outside the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the President asked them to continue attending their lectures, submitting their assignments and applying for exams remotely, thus, they will not lose their right to complete this semester. Finally, the AAU President confirmed the readiness of the University and its staff to fully complete the current semester remotely, including holding the final exams, if necessary, God forbids. He also hoped that this crisis would disappear from Jordan and the rest of the world as soon as possible without losing any more lives.
