A Scientific Visit to the Roman Theater for Students of the Recreation and Sports Tourism Course

As part of the initiatives of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at Al-Ahliyya Amman University to enhance practical application and link it with scientific concepts, terminology, and theories, the Recreation and Sports Tourism Department in the Physical Education and Health Department organized a visit to the Roman Theater in the capital, Amman. The visit was supervised by Dr. Mohammed Mtawe’, the course instructor. The purpose of the visit was to explore the available facilities and advantages of the site and how it can be utilized for organizing sports events, with the goal of linking it to the sports aspect as an important feature for promoting this significant tourist landmark. During the visit, the evaluation process was linked to several indicators, including the access routes to the site, its outdoor areas, entry gates, and services available within the site. Additionally, the types of sports events that are suitable for the available spaces were discussed, as well as the suitability of the stands for the expected audience attending the event. The visit also emphasized the potential for using the event to promote traditional handicrafts and some popular foods. The concepts learned by the students in the course were discussed and linked to the actual location of the visit, and the main frameworks for organizing processes were identified. These frameworks will be used to build a model that includes all the necessary organizational elements and requirements, based on detailed reports that the students will prepare and discuss throughout the semester. It is worth mentioning that the Recreation and Sports Tourism course is one of several courses aimed at enriching the theoretical and practical knowledge of students in the Physical Education and Health Department and enhancing their experiences through real-world application.
