A remarkable achievement for Al-Ahliyya Amman University players at the closing of the Asian Taekwondo Championships

The four-star Asian Taekwondo Championship, which was held in the South Korean city of Chuncheon, was concluded on Monday, June 27 2022 witnessing remarkable efforts for the players of AAU Taekwondo Team through their contribution in the championship and earning 3 medals, gold, silver and bronze.Saleh Al-Sharabati, the national taekwondo player and Al-Ahliyya Amman University taekwondo player as well, silver medal holder of Tokyo Olympics and ranked as number one in Asia, won the silver medal in this championship during his first fight in the under 80kg weight category against his opponent, the Mongolian taekwondo player in two rounds for none in the quarterfinals. Sharabati earned his second victory in the semi-finals during his fight against the South Korean player by two rounds to one, before losing in the final to the Uzbek player by two rounds to one, noting that Saleh Al-Sharabati was crowned with the gold medal in the previous championship.Zaid Mustafa begun by defeating the Thai player in the round of 16 and beating the Tajikistan player in the quarterfinals. Zaid followed that by beating the Chinese player in the semi-finals before losing in the final match against the Uzbek player who is a gold medal holder of Tokyo Olympics and ranked in the second place worldwide. This is the second medal earned by Zaid Mustafa in the Asian Championships after winning the bronze medal in its previous tournament.Zaid Al-Halawani started the tournament by defeating the Tajik player in the round of 16, then winning the quarterfinals before losing in the semi-finals to the South Korean player by two rounds to one, to win a bronze medal in the under 63 kg weight category. This is Al-Halwani’s second silver medal in the Asian Championship after winning the silver medal in its last edition.It is worth mentioning that the national taekwondo team finished its participation in the Asian Championship, ranking third in the men's category and fifth in the general ranking, through its players winning a gold medal, 4 silver medals and a bronze medal. The silver medals were: Saleh Al-Sharbati (under 80 kg), Louay Humaidan (under 54 kg), Zaid Mustafa (under 68 kg), and Fahd Ammar (under 87 kg), while Zaid Al Halawani (under 63 kg) won the bronze medal.
