A Graduation Project Film in the Department of Film, Television and Theater Design in Al-Ahliyya Amman University Wins an International Award “The Treaty” is the first Arab short film to receive this international award
The Jordanian film “The Treaty” produced by the young director, Hassan Omran, won the competition of the American TV network “Real 13” for short films across the world. The producer, Omran graduated from the Department of Film, Television and Theatre Design. The produced film was a requirement for the graduation project. It was supervised by the director Dr. Firas Al-Rimouny, the Head of the Department. This award is the first of its kind to be received by an Arab short film. The film which lasted for three minutes and included 30 black and white pictures representing the story was drawn by Omran. The film used the French style ‘Noir’ which prevails in crime movies or the Hollywood drama that utilizes inundated contents of cynical and rebellious acts. This technique is known as a visual style based on black and white photography where the director mixes it with the cinema of modernity which is derived from cartoon graphics without departing from the old traditions. At the same time, he proposed new areas beyond the limits of the ready- made patterns of poor cinema or what is known as the independent cinema. (The Treaty) is a short cartoon movie which describes part of (Samiha’s) life who is a rebellious woman married to a British merchant. After he betrayed her, she had no choice but to take revenge.
