The English Language and Translation Program continues to contribute to the development of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, the first private university in Jordan, as a prestigious academic institution at the local and regional levels. The program in English Language and Translation was offered in 2001. The program aims to build students’ cognitive skills as well as their analytical abilities in English language and translation. It also stimulates an effective engagement in constructive scientific research.

  • Identifying the most important critical theories and schools in translation, linguistics and literature.
  • Getting familiar with socio-cultural contexts associated with Arabic and English languages.
  • Demonstrating and developing different language skills, acquiring the necessary vocabulary, terminology and idioms to write sound texts and develop coherent conversations in English.
  • Using different resources and computer-assisted translation tools.
  • Employing theories of linguistics and translation in discourse analysis and translation.
  • Applying different translation strategies and methods based on the nature and domain of the text.
  • Conducting authentic research in translation studies.
