Master in Clinical Psychology


Clinical Psychology Master's degree at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, established in 2009, offers a comprehensive grounding in understanding mental health problems. The course has substantial research elements and modules that develop the knowledge of the etiology and treatment of various psychological disorders and behavioral problems.


Students will receive extensive training in research methods via a statistics module and complete a postgraduate dissertation on a related topic or comprehensive exam. The course teaches theories and treatment methods that address psychological disorders and maladaptive behaviors of people who seek psychological services and promote well-being, self-discovery, and personal development. The course also covers administering psychological tests, diagnose and treating mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders such as depression, psychosis, anxiety, addictions, eating disorders, or learning disorders. The graduate will be able to apply various types of psychotherapy, from cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy (such as psychoanalysis), family therapy, or humanistic therapy and the new waves of psychotherapy.


Student Learning Outcomes of Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology

1. Describe the basic concepts, principles, and theories in clinical psychology.

2. Apply basic knowledge and skills to work in the areas of psychological service for the purposes of diagnosis and treatment.

3. Apply ethical standards in the professional practice of clinical psychology.

4. Conduct, analyze and write psychological research.


Objectives of the Clinical Psychology Program (Master's Level).

1. Developing theoretical and practical expertise to understand and interpret the good and bad in mental health.

2. Improving research skills to conduct studies in the fields of clinical psychology.

3. Linking scientific research to the needs of society in the areas of mental health and linking it to physical health and social and environmental variables.

4. Keeping up with developments to update methods of assessment, diagnosis, and psychological treatment.

5. Contributing to addressing issues related to crises, asylum, violence, technology and other psychological aspects.
