Students with Disabilities [Statistics] (10.4)

1. Disability Support Office – Accessibility and Inclusive Education Services 

The Disability Support Office, operating under the Sustainability and International Ranking Center, is the central body responsible for implementing and monitoring accessibility policies across AAU. 

It provides academic accommodations, adaptive technologies, and individualized support to students with physical, sensory, or learning disabilities. 

The Office coordinates closely with faculty members to ensure that teaching materials and classroom environments are fully inclusive. 

2. Deanship of Student Affairs – Social and Academic Integration Support 

The Deanship of Student Affairs plays a crucial role in facilitating equal participation for students with disabilities in campus activities, student clubs, and leadership programs. 

It ensures that all extracurricular and student life events are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to diverse needs. And proving the students with all their needs and hearing their voices 

3. Admission and Registration Department – Inclusive Admission and Data Management 

The Admission and Registration Unit (DAR) ensures equitable and accessible admission processes for all students, including those with disabilities. The Unit collaborates with the Disability Support Office to verify and document students’ accessibility needs upon enrollment, guaranteeing the provision of appropriate academic accommodations throughout their studies. Through its digital registration systems and inclusive policies, DAR contributes directly to the university’s strategy for equal opportunity and transparent data management in alignment with SDG10. 

4. Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences 

The Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences actively supports inclusive education through its programs in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, both of which contribute to training professionals who serve persons with disabilities. 

The faculty collaborates with national centers to develop rehabilitation solutions and raise community awareness about accessibility and inclusion. 

5. Higher Education Center (HEC) – Digital Accessibility and Assistive Learning Technologies 

The Higher Education Center (HEC) at Al-Ahliyya Amman University ensures the digital inclusion of all students, including those with disabilities, by promoting the use of accessible learning technologies and e-platforms. The Center supports the integration of assistive software, learning management systems, and digital tools that enhance equitable access to online education. It also collaborates with the Disability Support Office and the IT Department to guarantee that e-learning content, virtual classrooms, and university portals are fully accessible to all users. 

6. Occupational Therapy Department

The Occupational Therapy Department offers help to all individal of all ages to overcome  physical and emotional challenges . The facuilty helps to insure the wellbeing of all their individuals. 

Occupational therapists assess, treat, and empower patients to engage in meaningful activities, improving their functional abilities and quality of life. 

Provided by  high-quality occupational therapy services with clients, professionals, and systems supported by research and service. 

While maintaining values of justice and freedom and dignity. Which directlty contribtes to SDG-10.6.8 which provides support services for people with disabilities. 

1. Accessibility Enhancement and Campus Infrastructure Development 

AAU has completed extensive accessibility upgrades across campus, including ramps, elevators, tactile signage, accessible restrooms, and designated parking for students with physical disabilities. These modifications ensure barrier-free mobility and equal participation in campus life. 

2. Partnership with Al-Hussein Society for Training and Inclusion 

Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU), represented by President Prof. Sari Hamdan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Al-Hussein Society / Jordan Center for Training and Inclusion. The agreement aims to promote academic and professional collaboration in research, training, and rehabilitation programs that serve children with disabilities. It includes organizing joint scientific conferences, applied research projects, and specialized workshops on educational inclusion. Moreover, the MoU provides internship opportunities for students of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, enhancing hands-on learning and strengthening AAU’s social responsibility toward inclusive education. 

3. Free Medical Day at Al-Baqa’a Camp – Inclusive Healthcare and Disability Support Initiative 

The Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences at Al-Ahliyya Amman University organized a free medical day at Al-Baqa’a Camp in collaboration with the Al-Sahabi Abdullah bin Umm Maktum Association for the Blind and Orphans. The event, supervised by Prof. Ghaleb Ereikat and supported by Dr. Maher Al-Hourani, provided free medical, rehabilitative, and diagnostic services to more than 500 individuals from the camp and surrounding communities, including children, refugees, and persons with disabilities. 

Services included physical therapy, speech and hearing assessments, vision screening, laboratory testing, and educational health workshops. More than 100 eyeglasses and several hearing aids were distributed free of charge, while 15 children with speech or hearing difficulties were enrolled in tailored rehabilitation programs. 

This initiative exemplifies AAU’s commitment to promoting health equity, accessibility, and inclusion by ensuring that underserved and disabled populations receive comprehensive healthcare and rehabilitation services. It aligns directly with SDG10.2 (Social and Economic Inclusion) and SDG3 (Good Health and Well-being). 

4. Digital Accessibility Initiative – Inclusive E-Learning Systems 

In collaboration with the Hourani e-Learning Center (HEC), the University upgraded its digital learning platforms to meet accessibility standards, integrating text-to-speech tools, captioned lecture recordings, and accessible Learning Management Systems (LMS). These measures enable full participation for visually and hearing-impaired students in hybrid and online learning. 

5. Participation and Sponsorship of the 11th Hearing and Balance Health Conference 2025 

Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) participated in and sponsored the 11th Hearing and Balance Health Conference 2025, held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al-Hussein and organized in collaboration with the Arab Academy of Hearing and Balance and Lübeck University in Germany. The conference addressed issues related to hearing, balance, speech, and language rehabilitation, serving as a major platform for advancing research and inclusive healthcare practices. 

AAU’s contribution included presentations and workshops by faculty and students from the Audiology and Speech Pathology Department, highlighting rehabilitation and treatment techniques for hearing and balance disorders. The University’s Hearing and Speech Center, which has provided free diagnostic and therapeutic services to over 30,000 beneficiaries — including children, refugees, and underprivileged groups — was recognized as a national model for social inclusion and community impact. 

Through this participation, AAU reaffirmed its commitment to promoting equal access to healthcare, academic empowerment, and the social inclusion of persons with disabilities in alignment with SDG10 and SDG3.
