Introduction
At Al-Ahliyya Amman University, we are proud to lead many sustainability projects, engaging more than 67 partners from academia, industry, and government sectors across local, regional, and international levels. The projects listed below represent the main initiatives among our extensive portfolios. These projects not only showcase our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability but also highlight our role as a leader in pioneering sustainable practices within the educational sector and beyond. Through these collaborations, we aim to drive significant change and set benchmarks in sustainability that resonate globally.
Green Campus Initiative Project:
Objective: Develop a comprehensive plan to reduce carbon emissions, increase energy efficiency, and utilize renewable energy sources. The Hub has implemented and shared various international protocols across the university to enhance its sustainability reporting and understanding of international standards. These include but not limited the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

Solar Panel Project – Phases 1 to 4:
Objective: Phases1,2, 3 and 4 Project: Continue the expansion of the solar panel initiative. Having completed Phase 3, the project is on track for Phase 4, which aims to fully meet the university's electricity needs through renewable solar energy by 2025.

Student Sustainability Club:
Objective: Establish a club with 200 active members by the end of the first year to engage in sustainability projects. This also includes the Sustainability Network Club, which is to provide professional development, education, and community engagement related to the three pillars of sustainability: the environment, the economy, and social equity.

Water-Wise Campus Project:
Objective: Reduce water usage by 25% by 2026 through technological and behaviour change interventions.

Fostering Mindful Water Usage Project:
Objective: Launch community outreach programs to promote water conservation.

Zero Waste Campaign Project:
Objective: Achieve a recycling rate of 70% and reduce campus waste by 50% by 2025.

Sustainable Landscaping Project:
Objective: Convert 50% of campus green areas to use native plants by 2027 to enhance biodiversity and reduce maintenance.

Objective: Conduct annual energy audits to identify inefficiencies and reduce energy consumption by 20% by 2025.

Academic programs and study plan development Project
Objective: Sustainability isn't a siloed subject at AAU. It's integrated across the curriculum, ensuring all students gain exposure to environmental issues and graduate as responsible global citizens. AAU further promotes knowledge sharing by hosting seminars, workshops, and conferences, fostering collaboration and idea exchange on a broader scale.
Through this dedication to education, research, and knowledge sharing, AAU is not just educating future generations, but actively shaping a more sustainable future for our planet.
