Access Schemes for People with Disabilities (10.6.9)

Schemes enabling people with disabilities to access education and campus services equally.

Introduction:

Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) is deeply committed to ensuring equal access to education, facilities, and campus services for all students, including those with disabilities. The university provides a fully inclusive learning environment supported by comprehensive accessibility schemes designed to remove physical, academic, and social barriers.

In alignment with its Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy (PS 45 SDG10) and the national standards for disability inclusion, AAU guarantees that all students—regardless of their physical, sensory, or learning challenges—receive equitable opportunities to participate in academic and extracurricular life. The campus infrastructure is equipped with wheelchair-accessible ramps, elevators, tactile pathways, designated parking areas, and accessible restrooms to facilitate mobility and independence.

Additionally, the General Supplies and Services Department, in collaboration with the Health Training Center and Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, continuously monitors accessibility standards across all university buildings and services. This ensures compliance with universal design principles and provides immediate support for students requiring special accommodations.

AAU also implements dedicated access schemes such as priority registration for students with disabilities, provision of assistive technologies, and specialized examination arrangements, ensuring that every student can pursue their academic goals without discrimination. Furthermore, the university works closely with organizations such as the Al-Hussein Society for Training and Inclusion and the Al-Hussain New Salt Governmental Hospital to offer rehabilitation and assistive training programs that support physical and communication needs.

Through these comprehensive measures, Al-Ahliyya Amman University reaffirms its firm belief that accessibility is not an exception but a right—ensuring that all members of its community can learn, grow, and succeed on an equal footing.
