Mentorship and counselling programs supporting underrepresented students and staff.

Introduction:

Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) demonstrates a strong institutional commitment to equity, inclusion, and student well-being through comprehensive mentoring and peer-support frameworks that empower underrepresented and disadvantaged groups across the university community.

The university’s approach is grounded in a systematic, data-driven mentorship model that integrates academic, psychological, and social dimensions of student support. Through the Guidance and Alumni Office, the Psychological Care Center, the Deanship of Student Affairs, and the Disability Support Office, AAU provides a holistic range of services, including individual counselling, academic advising, peer-to-peer mentoring networks, and structured workshops addressing personal development, academic excellence, and emotional resilience.

AAU’s mentoring ecosystem ensures early identification of students who may face barriers due to disability, economic hardship, or socio-cultural marginalization, offering tailored interventions that promote inclusion and equal opportunity. The programs are supported by trained mentors, faculty advisors, and senior student volunteers who deliver personalized guidance and evidence-based counselling sessions, fostering a climate of empathy, empowerment, and collaboration.

Moreover, the university conducts capacity-building programs, orientation sessions, and leadership development workshops that enhance student confidence, cross-cultural understanding, and community belonging. The office provides continuous academic and career guidance, mentoring services, and professional development programs for all students, with a special focus on underrepresented and first-generation learners. It implements structured mentoring sessions, peer-support initiatives, and alumni mentoring programs that enhance employability and personal growth.

2. Al-Ahliyya Amman Center for Consultations and Psychological Care

This center offers professional psychological counselling, emotional resilience training, and group therapy sessions aimed at improving students’ mental health and well-being. It supports vulnerable and marginalized students, ensuring emotional stability and inclusion in the academic environment.

3. Deanship of Student Affairs

The deanship manages peer-mentoring programs, leadership development workshops, and student clubs that promote integration, teamwork, and community belonging. It supervises mentoring initiatives designed to assist students with academic, social, and cultural adaptation challenges.

4. Al-Ahliyya Amman University Health Training Center

Serves as a multidisciplinary hub that integrates academic mentorship with practical health education. The center provides guidance and hands-on mentoring for nursing, pharmacy, and allied medical sciences students, focusing on communication, teamwork, and professional ethics. It also organizes awareness workshops and community outreach programs that promote holistic well-being and mentorship-based learning.

5. Faculty Of Allied Medical Sciences – Occupational Therapy Department

The Occupational Therapy Department offers help to all individal of all ages to overcome physical and emotional challenges . The facuilty helps to insure the wellbeing of all their individuals.

Occupational therapists assess, treat, and empower patients to engage in meaningful activities, improving their functional abilities and quality of life.

Provided by  high-quality occupational therapy services with clients, professionals, and systems supported by research and service.

While maintaining values of justice and freedom and dignity. Which directlty contribtes to SDG-10.6.8 which provides support services for people with disabilities.

1. AAU Health Training Center Organizes a Workshop on Electrocardiography

The workshop focused on developing mentoring skills among nursing and allied medical sciences students. Participants learned how to provide academic and practical guidance to peers during clinical training sessions, promoting teamwork, communication, and professional ethics..

2. Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) Course for Nursing Students

This course provided new students with essential mentoring and hands-on training in life-saving techniques under the supervision of senior instructors and mentors. The program strengthened confidence, teamwork, and readiness for clinical practice.

3. AAU’s Faculty of Nursing Participates in Annual Charity Campaign

Nursing students, guided by faculty mentors, volunteered in a community-service campaign providing health awareness, free checkups, and mentorship to school students and families from low-income areas. This activity reinforces peer mentoring, empathy, and social responsibility.

4. AAU Participates in the Career Accelerator Program "Employment" and Signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Injaz

This initiative provides structured career mentoring and internship guidance for students, connecting them with industry mentors to improve employability and professional growth. It integrates mentorship, academic advising, and career counselling.

5. Memorandum of Cooperation between AAU and Huawei Technologies- Jordan

As part of its institutional mentoring and capacity-building framework, AAU signed a cooperation agreement with Huawei Technologies–Jordan to launch the Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy (HAINA). The initiative provides mentorship and certified training for both students and faculty members in ICT, AI, and digital technologies. The program includes Huawei Certified Academy Instructor (HCAI) preparation, curriculum development support, and employability-focused mentorship that enhances academic and professional competencies across underrepresented student groups.
