Educational Outreach (4.3.4)

Conducting outreach activities in schools and communities, including voluntary student-led initiatives. 

Introduction: 

Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) is deeply committed to expanding the reach of quality education beyond the boundaries of its campus, emphasizing its role as a driver of community empowerment, lifelong learning, and social responsibility. Through a diverse range of educational outreach initiatives, the university continuously engages with schools, communities, and public institutions to deliver training programs, awareness workshops, and student-led volunteer projects that promote knowledge transfer and community well-being. 

These outreach activities aim to provide inclusive and equitable learning opportunities to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and professional levels, supporting the university’s mission to foster an educated, informed, and resilient society. AAU’s initiatives include health awareness campaigns, professional first aid training, environmental education programs, and sustainability awareness projects implemented in partnership with schools, municipalities, care centers, and local organizations. 

The university also places special emphasis on voluntary student-led initiatives, encouraging its students to take an active role in teaching, mentoring, and conducting community-based education sessions. These experiences allow students to develop leadership, communication, and civic engagement skills while extending the impact of academic knowledge to benefit society at large. 

Through these continuous efforts, AAU affirms its strategic commitment to SDG 4 (Quality Education)—particularly Target 4.3 on access to lifelong learning and Target 4.7 on education for sustainable development—and reinforces its contribution to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being)SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through multi-sector collaboration and community-oriented educational outreach.

2. Al-Ahliyya Amman Center for Consultations and Psychological Care   

The Center for Consultations and Psychological Care (CCPS) at Al-Ahliyya Amman University serves as a key pillar in promoting educational outreach, lifelong learning, and community empowerment. The center provides training, consultancy, and development programs designed to meet the needs of individuals, professionals, and organizations within the local and regional community. 

Through its diverse educational and professional development initiatives, CCPS offers short-term training courses, workshops, and seminars covering areas such as business management, digital skills, health awareness, language development, and vocational training. These programs are delivered by university faculty and industry experts, ensuring the integration of academic excellence with real-world applications. 

The center also organizes community engagement and awareness activities in collaboration with public institutions, NGOs, and the private sector, thereby enhancing the university’s role as a catalyst for social and economic growth. 

 

By extending learning opportunities beyond the classroom, the CCPS embodies the university’s mission to promote lifelong learning, employability, and social inclusion. Its programs contribute directly to SDG 4 (Quality Education) particularly Target 4.3 on lifelong learning and support SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through multi-sector cooperation and knowledge transfer.

5. Workshop on the Fundamentals of Architectural Design for Students of the Jordanian Alliance School 

The Department of Architectural Engineering at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Al Ahliyya Amman University, organized an educational outreach workshop on the fundamentals of architectural design for students of the Jordanian Alliance School on April 16, 2025. 

Led by Lecturers Safaa Al-Kafouf and Lina Shawashra, and supported by a team of architecture students, the workshop included interactive design activities, such as constructing miniature architectural models and designing creative spaces using simple materials. The activity introduced students to basic architectural concepts, encouraged creative thinking, and enhanced problem-solving skills through experiential learning. 

This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to community education and service, emphasizing its role in promoting creativity and design awareness among younger generations. It also demonstrates how AAU integrates academic knowledge with social engagement, enabling its students to share their learning experiences with the community. 

Through this school-based outreach program, the university contributes directly to SDG 4 (Quality Education) particularly Target 4.7 on education for creativity and sustainable development and supports SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening community partnerships and spreading design literacy.

6. AAU Celebrates Graduation of the First Cohort of the Diploma in Psychological Professional Training 

The Department of Architectural Engineering at Al Ahliyya Amman University organized a community art and design workshop titled “An Art Day with Children with Special Needs” at the Al Hussein Society / Jordan Center for Training and Inclusive Education. 

Supervised by Lecturer Lina Shawashra and supported by engineers Daliana Al-Sahawneh and Nadine Shaaban, the event involved 20 architecture students who designed and conducted interactive art activities tailored to the children’s diverse abilities and interests. The workshop integrated the principles of design, color, and imagination into a fun, creative learning environment, encouraging self-expression and social inclusion. 

The activity promoted creative and emotional development among children while empowering students to apply their academic learning in a real community context, fostering empathy, teamwork, and civic responsibility. 

This initiative reflects the Faculty’s dedication to community service, inclusive education, and the social role of art and design as tools for empowerment and integration. It also strengthens AAU’s partnerships with local institutions supporting children with special needs, directly contributing to SDG 4 (Quality Education) particularly Target 4.5 on eliminating disparities in education and supporting SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
