Educational Outreach (4.3.4)

1. Hearing and Speech Center (HSC)  

The Hearing and Speech Center (HSC) at Al Ahliyya Amman University University is a specialized academic and community service unit that plays a vital role in advancing educational outreach, clinical training, and community engagement. The center provides comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive services for individuals with speech, language, and hearing disorders. 

Through its integrated approach, the HSC combines academic learning with real-world clinical practice, serving as a training hub for undergraduate and graduate students in communication disorders and audiology. Under the supervision of certified specialists and academic faculty, students actively participate in fieldwork, screening programs, and community-based awareness campaigns that target schools, kindergartens, and public health institutions. 

The center’s community initiatives include early detection programs for hearing and speech disorders, awareness campaigns for parents and teachers, and educational workshops aimed at improving communication health and literacy across diverse segments of society. These activities enhance public understanding of communication sciences while reinforcing the university’s mission to bridge academic knowledge and social responsibility. 

2. Al-Ahliyya Amman Center for Consultations and Psychological Care   

The Center for Consultations and Psychological Care (CCPS) at Al-Ahliyya Amman University serves as a key pillar in promoting educational outreach, lifelong learning, and community empowerment. The center provides training, consultancy, and development programs designed to meet the needs of individuals, professionals, and organizations within the local and regional community. 

Through its diverse educational and professional development initiatives, CCPS offers short-term training courses, workshops, and seminars covering areas such as business management, digital skills, health awareness, language development, and vocational training. These programs are delivered by university faculty and industry experts, ensuring the integration of academic excellence with real-world applications. 

The center also organizes community engagement and awareness activities in collaboration with public institutions, NGOs, and the private sector, thereby enhancing the university’s role as a catalyst for social and economic growth. 

By extending learning opportunities beyond the classroom, the CCPS embodies the university’s mission to promote lifelong learning, employability, and social inclusion. Its programs contribute directly to SDG 4 (Quality Education) particularly Target 4.3 on lifelong learning and support SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through multi-sector cooperation and knowledge transfer. 

3. Women Health Center 

The Women’s Health Center (WHC) at Al-Ahliyya Amman University is a leading academic and community-based center dedicated to promoting women’s health education, awareness, and empowerment. Established under the Faculty of Nursing, the center provides comprehensive training programs, awareness workshops, and community outreach activities aimed at improving the well-being of women, families, and communities. 

The WHC plays a dual educational and social role—serving as a clinical and educational training platform for nursing students, while simultaneously engaging with the broader community through field visits, awareness campaigns, and partnerships with local health institutions. Topics include maternal and child health, elderly care, nutrition, mental well-being, reproductive health, and family planning. 

Through these initiatives, students and faculty members collaborate to transfer academic knowledge into practical, socially relevant action. The center actively contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by fostering experiential learning and lifelong education; to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting health awareness and prevention; and to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through community collaboration and advocacy for women’s health rights. 

1. Community Training Course: “First Aid for Al-Jami’a Schools’ Staff   

The Health Training Center, affiliated with the Faculty of Nursing at Al-Ahliyya Amman University, organized a community outreach educational program titled “First Aid” for the staff of the First, Second, and Third Al-Jami’a Schools, engaging more than 300 participants. 

The initiative aimed to enhance health awareness and practical first-aid competencies among school personnel, enabling them to effectively manage emergency cases and ensure the safety of students. Conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Khaldoun Hamdan, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Director of the Center, the one-day course included both theoretical instruction and hands-on training on topics such as CPR for adults, children, and infants; wound and fracture management; heatstroke; choking; and poisoning. 

Delivered by Dr. Manal Al-Sutri, Ms. Aseel Al-Sayyed, and Ms. Rahaf Khaled, the training utilized mannequins and simulation tools to reinforce real-world learning. This program reflects AAU’s commitment to social responsibility and community education, and its dedication to forming strong partnerships with local educational institutions. 

2. Awareness and Screening Initiative for Detecting Hearing and Speech Disorders among School and Kindergarten Students   

The Center for Hearing and Speech at Al Ahliyya Amman University implemented a field educational and awareness initiative focused on the early detection of hearing and speech disorders among children at the University’s Schools and the Patriarch’s Model Kindergarten in Fuheis. 

The initiative engaged faculty specialists, clinical supervisors, and master’s students in communication disorders and audiology, who conducted hearing and speech screenings to identify potential language or communication difficulties among young learners. Using advanced diagnostic equipment, the team evaluated hearing sensitivity, speech production, and language comprehension, and examined the speech organs to determine the causes of any disorders detected. 

Following the assessments, the center provided personalized reports, recommendations, and follow-up appointments to ensure continuous care. This initiative represents a strong example of community-based educational outreach, combining academic expertise with hands-on learning experiences for students, while directly serving the health and educational development of children. 

3. Field Visit and Eye Health Awareness Program at the Latin School in Fuheis    

As part of its community educational outreach initiatives, the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences at Al Ahliyya Amman University, through its Department of Optometry, organized a field visit to the Latin School in Fuheis to promote awareness about eye health and safety among school students. 

During the visit, academic and administrative staff conducted comprehensive eye examinations for 70 students and delivered an educational lecture highlighting the importance of regular vision screening, eye protection practices, and the vital role of optometrists in maintaining community health. 

The department also introduced students to the Optometry Program at Ahliyya Amman University, emphasizing its significance in the healthcare field and its rarity in Jordan’s higher education landscape AAU being the only private university in Jordan offering this specialization. 

This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to social responsibility, community engagement, and the dissemination of health knowledge beyond the campus, contributing directly to SDG 4 (Quality Education) particularly Target 4.3 (access to lifelong learning) and to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaborative health education and outreach in schools. 

4. Workshop on Architectural Design Basics for Children at the Children’s Museum Jordan 

The Department of Architecture at Al-Ahliyya Amman University organized an educational community workshop on the basics of architectural design at the Children’s Museum Jordan on April 10, 2025. 

Supervised by Engineer Safaa Kfouf and supported by a group of architecture students, the workshop provided children with an opportunity to learn about design thinking and spatial creativity through hands-on model building activities using simple materials. The event aimed to introduce young participants to the foundations of architectural design, stimulate their imagination, and develop their creative problem-solving abilities. 

This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to community education and outreach, integrating academic knowledge with social engagement. It also demonstrates the active role of students in delivering inclusive, interactive, and skill-based education beyond the campus environment. 

Through this collaboration with the Children’s Museum, the activity supports SDG 4 (Quality Education)—particularly Target 4.7 on education for creativity and sustainable development—and contributes to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by promoting awareness of design, culture, and innovation in society. 

5. Workshop on the Fundamentals of Architectural Design for Students of the Jordanian Alliance School 

The Department of Architectural Engineering at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Al Ahliyya Amman University, organized an educational outreach workshop on the fundamentals of architectural design for students of the Jordanian Alliance School on April 16, 2025. 

Led by Lecturers Safaa Al-Kafouf and Lina Shawashra, and supported by a team of architecture students, the workshop included interactive design activities, such as constructing miniature architectural models and designing creative spaces using simple materials. The activity introduced students to basic architectural concepts, encouraged creative thinking, and enhanced problem-solving skills through experiential learning. 

This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to community education and service, emphasizing its role in promoting creativity and design awareness among younger generations. It also demonstrates how AAU integrates academic knowledge with social engagement, enabling its students to share their learning experiences with the community. 

Through this school-based outreach program, the university contributes directly to SDG 4 (Quality Education) particularly Target 4.7 on education for creativity and sustainable development and supports SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening community partnerships and spreading design literacy. 

6. AAU Celebrates Graduation of the First Cohort of the Diploma in Psychological Professional Training 

The Department of Architectural Engineering at Al Ahliyya Amman University organized a community art and design workshop titled “An Art Day with Children with Special Needs” at the Al Hussein Society / Jordan Center for Training and Inclusive Education. 

Supervised by Lecturer Lina Shawashra and supported by engineers Daliana Al-Sahawneh and Nadine Shaaban, the event involved 20 architecture students who designed and conducted interactive art activities tailored to the children’s diverse abilities and interests. The workshop integrated the principles of design, color, and imagination into a fun, creative learning environment, encouraging self-expression and social inclusion. 

The activity promoted creative and emotional development among children while empowering students to apply their academic learning in a real community context, fostering empathy, teamwork, and civic responsibility. 

This initiative reflects the Faculty’s dedication to community service, inclusive education, and the social role of art and design as tools for empowerment and integration. It also strengthens AAU’s partnerships with local institutions supporting children with special needs, directly contributing to SDG 4 (Quality Education) particularly Target 4.5 on eliminating disparities in education and supporting SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
