Research addressing sustainable urban planning, community development, cultural heritage, and green mobility. 

Introduction: 

 

Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) demonstrates a strong research commitment to advancing Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) through interdisciplinary studies that integrate architecture, urban planning, cultural heritage preservation, community development, environmental design, and smart mobility solutions. 

The university’s research ecosystem supported by the Faculty of Architecture & Design, the Hourani Center for Applied Scientific Research, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Sustainability & International Ranking Center (SIRC), and the Global Engagement Center promotes applied, community-driven, and policy-relevant scholarship that responds to local and regional urban challenges. 

AAU’s research contributions span diverse themes including: 

  • sustainable and resilient urban planning; 
  • green building technologies and low-carbon construction materials; 
  • cultural heritage documentation and conservation; 
  • community engagement in urban development; 
  • pedestrian-friendly and human-centered design; 
  • smart and AI-assisted design methodologies; 
  • sustainable mobility, commuting behavior, and transport equity; 
  • affordable and inclusive housing systems; 
  • climate-adaptive architecture and landscape design. 

These research outputs support Jordan’s national urban strategies while contributing to global knowledge on sustainable cities, green infrastructure, and cultural resilience. AAU also collaborates with municipalities, industry partners, regional networks, and international institutions to ensure the practical application of research outcomes in real-world urban environments. 

The following list presents key research publications, projects, workshops, field studies, and academic outputs produced by AAU faculty and researchers that directly address SDG11 and strengthen the university’s role as a driver of sustainable, inclusive, and culturally vibrant communities.
