Research on Peace and Justice [List] (16.1)

Research addressing peace, justice, strong institutions, and anti-corruption measures.

Introduction:

Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) promotes a research culture that advances the principles of peace, justice, transparency, and strong institutions as outlined in SDG16. Through interdisciplinary scholarship, AAU researchers address critical national and regional challenges related to the rule of law, accountability, anti-corruption frameworks, human rights protection, intellectual property governance, and data privacy legislation. The university’s research output contributes not only to academic knowledge but also to evidence-based policymaking and institutional reform across Jordan and the wider Arab region.

AAU supports SDG16-related research through dedicated faculty initiatives, legal clinics, research groups within the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Business, and collaborations with governmental and semi-governmental entities. These include partnerships with the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Ministry of State for Legal Affairs, the Jordan Bar Association, and the National Center for Human Rights, enabling scholars to engage in applied research with direct societal impact.

The university encourages rigorous academic inquiry in areas such as anti-corruption legislation, governance effectiveness, organized crime prevention, judicial transparency, digital rights, data protection laws, intellectual property enforcement, dispute resolution mechanisms, and inclusive legal education. In addition, AAU’s commitment to academic freedom and transparent governance structures, supported by its Academic Freedom Support Policy, Transparency and Anti-Corruption Policy, and Government Collaboration Policy, ensures a research environment where scholars can freely explore sensitive governance and justice topics.

Research outcomes are disseminated through peer-reviewed journal publications, policy papers, government consultation reports, public legal seminars, and conferences hosted or attended by AAU. Collectively, these research efforts strengthen national justice systems, improve legal awareness, and support reforms that advance fairness, integrity, and institutional resilience.

This section lists the university’s research output that directly aligns with SDG16 and demonstrates AAU’s ongoing contribution to peace, justice, and strong institutions at the local, national, and regional levels.
