Transforming the AAU Campus into a Living LAB of the Future: Meaningful, Resilient, Intelligent, Healthy, Anti-Virus, and Human-Centered
Initiated in 2023 as an applied initiative focused on transforming outdoor courtyard spaces into a sustainable living experience lab.
A well-designed campus is an essential component of students’ educational experiences and is linked to the mission of higher education. Outdoor open spaces are community-oriented places where students can meet, interact, and relax, contributing to both academic and personal growth.
In 2023, AAU initiated an applied project to transform the outdoor courtyard spaces on the university campus into a sustainable living experience lab aimed at enhancing health, well-being, and meaningful perception for students.
Why Open Spaces Matter
Outdoor spaces support interaction, relaxation, academic growth, personal development, and a stronger sense of quality of life on campus.
Living Lab Purpose
The initiative aims to understand students’ needs in outdoor spaces and transform the campus into a healthier, more meaningful, and more resilient living environment.
