About the Center
Sustainable development has emerged as a prominent paradigm in global development efforts. This direction offers a strong pathway toward creating an environmentally sustainable built environment through integrated design approaches that help reduce negative impacts on the environment and human well-being.
Sustainability extends beyond environmental performance to include social and economic dimensions, which requires a long-term perspective and a clear sense of responsibility toward future outcomes. It is widely recognized as a major path for meaningful progress, and global development frameworks continue to encourage institutions and governments to adopt sustainable development measures with urgency.
In Jordan, concern for sustainable development has grown significantly in recent years. As a result, sustainability has become an important area for both practical implementation and academic investigation. This makes it essential for institutions to establish specialized entities capable of addressing the opportunities and challenges associated with sustainable development in a focused and structured manner.
Al-Ahliyya Amman University established the Sustainability Development Office as a transdisciplinary hub that develops strategies, provides consultations, and promotes public awareness of sustainability. It also supports basic and applied research while managing and supervising projects related to the sustainable and green built environment for the AAU community and local society.
