The Faculty of Technical Education at Al-Ahliyya Amman University is revolutionizing TVET education in Jordan in accordance with growing graduate unemployment and an expanding skills gap. The faculty, based on the esteemed Pearson BTEC framework combined with Jordan’s National Qualifications Framework, provides an inclusive, student-centered methodology co-developed with industry professionals. Notable programs, including Automotive Engineering, Medical Equipment Technology, and Dairy Engineering, guarantee practical relevancy. The faculty fosters equity, access, and innovation with more than 80% digital content, over 42 industry relationships, and a dedicated Foundation Department focused on soft and entrepreneurial skills. The faculty is bridging opportunity gaps and redefining employability by consistently modifying its curriculum based on feedback from students and employers. It seeks to broaden paid work placements, implement applied bachelor’s pathways, and utilize AI-driven tools to customize learning, therefore creating a national paradigm for inclusive, future-oriented technical education.
Achievement
Today’s rapidly evolving global economy demands advanced technical competencies. Yet, the World Bank reports that conventional degree programs frequently fall short of employer requirements, and Jordan’s Civil Service Bureau data confirm persistently high unemployment among academic graduates. Recognizing this gap, Jordan has elevated technical and vocational education (TVET) to a national development priority positioning it as the most pragmatic pathway to equip young people with market-ready skills.
Under the government’s long-term education strategy, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHE) has enacted policies to mainstream TVET, reinforce educational quality, and bolster economic resilience. In 2024 MOHE rollout Pearson BTEC at the secondary level. This laid the groundwork for launching a dedicated technical faculty to align with evolving labor‑market demands.
Uniquely integrated with the global Pearson BTEC framework, the faculty adheres to rigorous international standards and active involvement of industry experts in teaching. All programs comply with Jordan’s National Qualifications Framework, securing both national accreditation and global recognition. This dual alignment ensures graduates possess credentials and skills valued by employers worldwide.
The faculty developed an intensive outreach program, combining digital campaigns, on-site school visits, and community forums. Curriculum development drew on insights from more than 25 industry leaders and statistics from the Department of Statistics, Ministry of Labor, International Labor Organization, and UNIDO.
The faculty adopts a dynamic inclusive educational approach emphasizing student-centered learning and focusing on continuous innovation and growth, by incorporating regular input from both students and industry partners and creating more than 42 formal partnerships and training agreements with leading companies; to refine and adapt its curriculum and engaging our academic staff in continuous professional development. Our model integrates project-based activities, collaborative work, and mentorship opportunities to cultivate critical thinking and practical problem-solving abilities.
Flagship programs underscore the faculty’s market responsiveness: Dairy Engineering, co-designed with major dairy producers; Medical Equipment Technology, Jordan’s first non-military program of its kind, training specialists for healthcare innovation; and Automotive Engineering, featuring hands-on learning with state-of-the-art simulators and diagnostic tools.
Over 80 percent of technical content has been digitized, granting students 24/7 access to interactive modules, virtual labs, and real-time feedback. A dedicated Foundation Department equips learners with entrepreneurship, life, research literacy, and career readiness skills, anticipating ILO forecasts that 85 percent of future roles will require hybrid technical and soft skill sets.
Building on this momentum, the faculty aims to pioneer paid, structured work placements as early as the second academic year, further blurring the lines between study and employment. Plans are underway to introduce an applied bachelor’s pathway in partnership with international universities, fostering advanced specializations and research opportunities. By 2026, the faculty will expand its digital platform with AI-driven analytics to personalize learning trajectories and adapt curricula in real time to emerging industry trends. This ongoing evolution positions the initiative not merely as a local success but as a replicable national model—poised to shape Jordan’s workforce for decades to come.
