7. Top 10 Interdisciplinary Research โ€” 2025
To identify and recognise the most distinguished interdisciplinary research published by AAU faculty in 2025, the Deanship of Scientific Research developed a structured seven-criterion evaluation methodology grounded in the same bibliometric indicators used in the broader 2025 study 'Where Disciplines Meet, Excellence Follows' โ€” which analysed 4,064 peer-reviewed publications using Scopus and SciVal data. Each paper is assessed on a 100-point scale across dimensions of disciplinary diversity, citation impact, topic momentum, international collaboration, and global readership reach.

What It Measures
M1
Disciplinary Diversity
18
Number of distinct scientific fields covered. More disciplines = deeper interdisciplinary integration.
M2
ISR Core Discipline Presence
16
Presence of at least one of the four ISR-mandatory sciences: Engineering, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, or Computer Science.
M3
Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI)
16
Citations compared to global average for the field. FWCI = 1.0 equals the world average.
M4
Topic Prominence Percentile
16
How fast the research topic is growing globally. Higher percentile = accelerating scientific momentum.
M5
International Collaboration
11
Number of countries and institutions involved. Reflects breadth of research network.
M6
Field-Weighted Top Citation Percentile
14
Whether paper ranks among global top 1%, 5%, or 10% for citations within its field.
M7
Field-Weighted View Impact (FWVI)
9
Global readership interest relative to field average. Important for recently published papers.

Institutional Application
The results of this evaluation are used by the Deanship of Scientific Research to identify outstanding interdisciplinary publications, support institutional reporting to the Interdisciplinary Research Committee and University Council, and guide improvement priorities across AAU's four research teams. The methodology is aligned with THE ISR 2026 classification criteria and draws on the same Scopus and SciVal data infrastructure used in AAU's broader 2025 bibliometric study.
