True interdisciplinary research does not simply invite multiple disciplines to the table. It integrates them. Concepts, methods, and analytical frameworks are combined to produce insights that could not emerge from any one field alone. This is the model AAU pursues: not parallel expertise sitting side by side, but genuine intellectual synthesis. A study on digital governance, for instance, is not a legal paper with a technology annex. It is a new kind of inquiry that neither law nor computer science could conduct alone.

Multidisciplinary Research

Multidisciplinary research brings different disciplines together around a shared problem, with each contributing its own perspective and methods independently. The result is a richer, more complete picture, but the disciplines remain distinct. This approach has real value, and much of AAU's collaborative research operates this way. The university sees it as a productive step toward deeper interdisciplinary integration.

Some of Jordan's most urgent development challenges — including water scarcity, healthcare access, digital infrastructure, and legal modernisation — sit at the intersection of multiple fields. When a pharmacist, a data scientist, and a behavioral psychologist work together on medication adherence, none of them is simply contributing their piece.
