The committee’s work is grounded in internationally recognized models and Jordanian occupational and health‑safety standards, and it operates in direct coordination with national health and environmental authorities.
Committee Responsibilities
- Oversee General Cleanliness:
Enforce institutional hygiene standards across all university facilities—lecture halls, laboratories, courtyards, and restrooms—working with relevant departments to ensure an environment free of infection risks.
- Monitor Water, Air, and Food Quality:
Conduct regular, up‑to‑date testing of campus water supplies, indoor air quality, and dining services to meet strict safety criteria.
- Manage Waste and Hazardous Materials:
Coordinate the classification, storage, and safe disposal of general waste, chemical reagents, and medical refuse in partnership with certified companies and agencies.
- Health & Environmental Emergency Response Plan:
Prepare for natural disasters, hazardous‑material spills, disease outbreaks, and fires—ensuring alarm systems are functional, fire extinguishers are properly distributed, and both students and staff are trained in their use.
- Routine Inspections:
Conduct scheduled audits of laboratories, cafeterias, and academic spaces to verify full compliance with health and safety protocols.
National and International Partnerships
- Crisis & Risk Management Collaboration:
Operate within an institutional coordination framework alongside national crisis‑management bodies—developing response scenarios, emergency plans, and field‑drill exercises with the Civil Defense Directorate, campus security, and health institutions.
- Civil Defense Training:
Partner with the Civil Defense Directorate to train evacuation teams and conduct emergency drills.
- Ministry Alliances:
Work with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment, and Greater Amman Municipality on preventive and regulatory campaigns.
- United Nations Engagement:
Participate in UN programs focused on environmental health and sustainability.
Campaigns and Programs
- Climate Adaptation & Awareness Initiatives:
Host workshops on the health and environmental impacts of climate change—covering extreme heat response, dust‑storm preparedness, and high‑temperature mitigation—and monitor the university’s carbon footprint to inform reduction policies.
- Infectious & Seasonal Disease Prevention Drives:
Launch targeted awareness campaigns against communicable and seasonal illnesses, especially during winter and transitional epidemic periods.
- Laboratory‑Safety Training:
Offer hands‑on chemical‑safety workshops in collaboration with the science faculties.
- Food & Water Safety Campaigns:
Coordinate with national laboratories to ensure potable water and safe food handling on campus.
- Environmental Protection & Waste‑Recycling Programs:

Health & Environmental Education
