Savvas Zeidan (Saba Elias Saba Zeidan)
Director of RMA & Compliance/MS Electronics/Limassol, Cyprus.
Graduation Year: 2001
Faculty: Faculty of Engineering
My professional journey began after graduating from Al-Ahliyya Amman University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. My university education provided me with a strong multidisciplinary foundation in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Computer Engineering, digital systems, and automation.
One of the most memorable experiences during my university years was my graduation project, which focused on designing and implementing a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and an automated water-flow control system. The project strengthened my engineering, analytical, and problem-solving skills and taught me how to transform theoretical knowledge into practical technological solutions.
Following graduation, I began my career in technical and engineering roles covering computer systems, networking, IT infrastructure, systems engineering, and technology consulting. As my experience developed, I progressed into management and executive leadership, including serving as General Manager of an international technology trading company, where I oversaw business and technology operations across 15 international markets. I also contributed to professional IT education and training initiatives in Cyprus, helping more than 1,000 participants develop their digital and technological skills.
A defining chapter of my career began in 2006 when I joined Ygia Polyclinic Private Hospital in Limassol, Cyprus. Over the following 19 years, I established and led its Information Technology Division and guided its technological transformation. When I joined the hospital, it employed approximately 150 people and operated with only two servers. Over time, I led the development of a comprehensive technology environment comprising more than 85 systems across five data centres, supporting nearly 600 employees and approximately 250 collaborating physicians.
My responsibilities expanded beyond technology management to include cybersecurity, information security governance, business continuity, disaster recovery, regulatory compliance, and Enterprise Risk Management. I chaired the hospital’s Risk Management Committee, maintained its Enterprise Risk Register, and advised executive management on technology strategy, cybersecurity, operational risks, and business continuity. I also contributed to major organisational developments, including the hospital’s integration into Cyprus’s General Healthcare System (GeSY).
Throughout this period, I faced significant challenges, particularly in maintaining the security, reliability, and continuous availability of mission-critical systems in a healthcare environment. Cybersecurity threats and rapid technological change required decisive leadership, effective risk assessment, teamwork, and continuous adaptation. I addressed these challenges through strategic planning, risk-based decision-making, professional development, and a strong focus on organisational resilience.
My commitment to lifelong learning led me to obtain the ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor certification in 2019 and complete an MSc in Enterprise Risk Management from the Open University of Cyprus in 2025, graduating with distinction. My dissertation examined the role of Artificial Intelligence and its challenges in crisis management, with particular focus on ethical governance, transparency, accountability, and human oversight.
In 2026, I was recognised as the highest-achieving graduate of the Enterprise Risk Management programme, achieving an overall grade of 8.95/10 and receiving the programme’s First Prize for Academic Excellence.
In the same year, I took another important step in my executive career by becoming Director of RMA & Compliance at MS Electronics in Cyprus. In this role, I oversee RMA operations, corporate compliance, governance, regulatory requirements, and Enterprise Risk Management. This position represents a further progression in my career, allowing me to bring together more than 25 years of experience in engineering, technology leadership, cybersecurity, governance, compliance, and risk management.
I consider establishing and developing the IT Division at Ygia Polyclinic and leading its technological transformation to be my proudest professional achievement. The lasting impact of the systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity measures, and governance frameworks I helped establish continues to support healthcare professionals, protect sensitive information, and strengthen the continuity of essential medical services.
Al-Ahliyya Amman University has remained a fundamental part of my professional foundation. The university equipped me with technical knowledge, analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, professional discipline, and the confidence to face complex challenges and pursue international opportunities. It also instilled values of perseverance, accountability, integrity, teamwork, and continuous learning that have remained central throughout my career.
My advice to AAU students and recent graduates is to view graduation as the beginning of their professional journey, not the end of their education. Build strong expertise, gain practical experience, embrace challenges, develop communication and leadership skills, and never stop learning.
In a rapidly changing world shaped by Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, automation, and digital transformation, technical knowledge must be complemented by critical thinking, adaptability, ethical judgement, and responsible decision-making. Do not be discouraged by setbacks; instead, use them as opportunities to learn and grow. Leadership is not defined only by a title, but by responsibility, integrity, trust, and the positive impact we create.
Looking ahead, I aspire to continue contributing to strategic technology leadership, cybersecurity, Enterprise Risk Management, digital transformation, corporate compliance, governance, and organisational resilience. I am particularly interested in the responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence and its potential to enhance decision-making, risk assessment, crisis preparedness, and organisational resilience.
I also hope to share my knowledge and experience through mentoring, professional education, applied research, and collaboration between industry and academia, particularly in Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, crisis management, and organisational resilience.
I am proud to be an alumnus of Al-Ahliyya Amman University, and I hope my professional journey inspires current and future graduates to believe in their abilities, embrace lifelong learning, pursue excellence, and transform their academic knowledge into meaningful and lasting impact.
