Rakan Nabeel Khdeir
Team Leader/Gulf Insurance Group - Jordan
Graduation Year: 2018
Faculty: Business School
After graduating from Al-Ahliyya Amman University, I began my journey by seeking an opportunity to enter the job market. However, I faced a common challenge among fresh graduates: most companies required previous work experience, something I had not yet had the opportunity to gain. Rather than allowing this obstacle to hold me back, I decided to create my own opportunities through freelancing and entrepreneurship.
Over approximately three and a half years, I explored several fields, including real estate brokerage, and established my own perfume brand, RK. This entrepreneurial experience was an important milestone in my journey, teaching me initiative, independence, and responsibility. However, due to the exceptional circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting lockdowns, I was unable to continue developing the business.
My professional career later took a new direction when I entered the insurance sector, where I have spent the past five years developing my expertise and building a successful career. During this period, I strengthened my skills in sales, customer relationship management, and business development. My dedication and performance enabled me to earn two promotions within a relatively short period, consistently rank among the company's top-performing sales professionals, and build a strong client base founded on trust and long-term professional relationships.
Believing that continuous learning is essential for professional growth, I have also invested in developing my knowledge and qualifications. I obtained several professional certifications, including the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualification in insurance, a Professional Master's Certificate in Sales and Marketing from Grant Cardone, and additional specialized certifications issued by the Jordan Insurance Federation.
Throughout my journey, I have learned that challenges are not barriers to success but opportunities to discover one's potential and develop new capabilities. The difficulty I initially faced in securing employment became a turning point that encouraged me to explore different fields, gain practical experience, and build my professional identity. I have come to believe that initiative, persistence, and adaptability are among the most important qualities for achieving sustainable career success.
Al-Ahliyya Amman University played an important role in shaping my personality and preparing me for professional life. It provided me with a solid academic foundation while helping me develop essential skills in communication, critical thinking, analysis, teamwork, and responsibility. Beyond the academic experience, I particularly value the lasting relationships I built with several of my professors, some of whom I remain in contact with today. This is something I deeply appreciate, as it reflects the lasting impact of the university experience beyond graduation.
My advice to current students and recent graduates is simple: do not wait for the perfect opportunity; create opportunities for yourselves. Start gaining experience as early as possible, even through small opportunities or experiences in different fields, because every step adds valuable knowledge and skills. Invest in personal and professional development, strengthen your communication and networking skills, and never be afraid of failure or rejection. A university degree is not the end of the journey; it is the beginning of a new chapter that requires commitment, continuous learning, and determination. I always encourage graduates not to compare their beginnings with other people's achievements, as everyone has a unique journey and timeline. What matters most is believing in your abilities and continuing to work towards your goals.
Looking ahead, I aspire to continue growing professionally within the insurance sector while expanding my expertise in sales, business development, and customer relationship management. I aim to take on greater professional and leadership responsibilities, where I can use my experience to lead teams, develop talent, and share knowledge with others. Ultimately, my ambition is not simply to reach a particular position, but to become a meaningful contributor to my field, leave a lasting professional impact, and continue creating value wherever my career takes me.
