My professional journey began shortly after graduating from Al-Ahliyya Amman University, when I entered the field of Intellectual Property (IP), a highly specialized area of law that soon became my lifelong passion. What initially began as a professional opportunity gradually developed into a career dedicated to protecting innovation, creativity, and the rights of businesses and individuals. Over time, I came to understand that intellectual property extends beyond legal protection; it plays a vital role in encouraging innovation, attracting investment, and enabling businesses to grow and compete in international markets.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with leading international brands, government authorities, and professional organizations. I have also contributed to the development of intellectual property legislation and enforcement practices across the Middle East. These experiences broadened my professional perspective and deepened my understanding of the relationship between law, business, and innovation, allowing me to contribute to the advancement of intellectual property both regionally and internationally.
One of the most significant milestones in my career was serving on the Board of Directors of the International Trademark Association (INTA) from 2020 to 2023. As one of the world's leading organizations dedicated to trademark protection, INTA provided me with a valuable opportunity to represent the Middle East within the international intellectual property community and contribute to global discussions on the development and protection of intellectual property rights.
Another achievement I am particularly proud of was receiving INTA's Annual Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of Trademark Law in 2018, in recognition of my contributions to the development of trademark law. I was also honored to serve as a founding board member of the UAE National Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), alongside holding leadership roles within several international professional associations, including INTA, AIPPI, and AIPLA.
Beyond these professional recognitions, I have been fortunate to contribute to the development of intellectual property legislation, advise governments and multinational companies, and strengthen cooperation among international brand owners, enforcement authorities, and professional organizations across the Middle East. These experiences have reinforced my belief that effective intellectual property protection is essential to fostering innovation, supporting economic growth, and building confidence in international business.
While I value these achievements and professional milestones, I consider the trust, relationships, and reputation I have built throughout my career to be among my greatest accomplishments. Being able to contribute to the advancement of the intellectual property profession, support and mentor younger professionals, and represent our region on the international stage is a source of tremendous pride.
My journey has not been without challenges. One of the greatest was establishing myself in a highly specialized field at a time when awareness of intellectual property rights and their importance was still developing across many parts of the Middle East. Intellectual property requires a thorough understanding of law, business, technology, international regulations, and the constantly evolving global marketplace. Building expertise in this field required continuous learning, persistence, and a willingness to step beyond my comfort zone.
Another important challenge was overcoming geographical and professional barriers and helping strengthen the presence of Middle Eastern professionals within international intellectual property organizations. As a Jordanian who built a significant part of my career in the United Arab Emirates, I recognized the importance of demonstrating professional excellence, establishing credibility, and showing that professionals from our region can make meaningful contributions to international discussions and leadership. Through dedication, collaboration, and continuous professional development, I worked to build relationships and contribute to the international intellectual property community.
Al-Ahliyya Amman University played an important role in laying the foundation for my professional journey. Beyond academic knowledge, my university experience helped me develop critical thinking, analytical skills, self-confidence, and the ability to approach challenges with an open and independent mindset. Looking back, I recognize that one of the most valuable lessons I gained was that education is not simply about acquiring knowledge or earning a degree; it is about learning how to think, question, adapt, and continue growing.
My experience at the university did not simply prepare me for my first professional opportunity; it helped establish the foundation for a lifetime of learning, leadership, and professional development. I remain proud of this connection and of the role my education played in shaping the path I chose to pursue.
If there is one lesson I would share with AAU students and recent graduates, it is that your starting point does not determine how far you can go. What truly matters is your ambition, your commitment to learning, and your willingness to persevere even when the path ahead is uncertain. I encourage young graduates to remain curious, embrace challenges, develop specialized expertise, and never underestimate the opportunities that can emerge from dedication and hard work. Building a successful career takes time, and every experience can become a stepping stone toward greater achievements.
Looking ahead, my aspirations extend beyond personal accomplishments and professional recognition. My primary goal is to create a lasting impact on the intellectual property profession, particularly in the Middle East, and contribute to building a stronger, more innovative, and internationally connected intellectual property ecosystem.
I am also passionate about mentoring and developing the next generation of intellectual property professionals. I hope to help create more opportunities for talented young people from Jordan and across the Middle East to gain international exposure, develop specialized expertise, and pursue leadership positions within the global intellectual property community.
Ultimately, I believe that investing in knowledge and people is essential to building a more innovative future. Our region has talented professionals with the potential to compete and lead internationally when given the right opportunities and support. My ambition is therefore not only to continue advancing in my own career, but also to leave a meaningful and lasting contribution to the intellectual property profession, empower emerging talent, and strengthen the Middle East's presence in the global intellectual property landscape.
