Faculty of Engineering

Medical Engineering Department was founded in 2000 to supply local and regional markets with qualified graduates enable to meet global advances and modern developments in Medical Engineering fields. The Department started academic studies on 24 candidates in 2000. The number of admitted students increased gradually to reach about 250 in 2019/2020 academic year. More than 600 students are graduated since the Department foundation. According to the Department records, the graduates occupy decent positions inside and outside Jordan. Also some of them joined post graduate studies.

To achieve excellence in its educational program by qualifying and equipping the graduates with the necessary skills and tools that would enable them to compete in the labor market locally and regionally and to keep up with the technological developments; to provide the required technical services for health sector and encourage scientific research.

Study Plan

The study plan covers varieties of Medical Engineering core subjects such as: Medical and Laboratory Instrumentation, Medical Rehabilitation and Biotelemetry, Artificial Organs and Prosthetics, in addition to other supporting engineering subjects in Electrical, Electronics, and Computing Engineering. The total number of academic hours to obtain the B.Sc. degree in Medical Engineering is 160 credits.

Lecturing and Teaching Staff

Members of the Medical Engineering Department have the experience, qualifications, and commitment, which enable them to deliver a quality B.Sc. program in Medical Engineering. There is a sufficient faculty expertise who covers all the major technical teaching areas offered in the department. The department comprises four specialized and modern Laboratories: Medical Instrumentation, Medical Sensors, Biomechanics / Rehab Engineering, and Medical Simulation. In addition to this, the department possesses illustrative facilities such as: MRI, CT-Scan, Gait Analysis system, and Ultrasonic Sonar system. All of them are available as teaching supporting facilities.

Careers in Medical Engineering

A career in Medical Engineering offers the opportunity to work in an exciting and rapidly changing technical world while directly impacting the quality of life for millions suffering from a host of medical conditions. Medical engineers connect teams of clinicians, researchers, and traditional engineers to translate patient needs into engineering solutions. Satisfying biomedical engineering careers can be found in industrial, healthcare, academic and government settings. The typical Medical engineer will work in a team environment that may include engineers, clinicians and specialists in both the physical and the life sciences.

High School Preparation

Engineering education requires strong high school preparation. Students interested in a Medical engineering path should have at least one semester of trigonometry and at least one year each of elementary algebra, intermediate and advanced algebra, plane geometry, chemistry and physics, to develop their competencies to the highest possible levels that prepare them to move into demanding college courses in calculus, calculus-based physics and chemistry for science majors. It is also essential that students have the competence to read and comprehend rapidly in English language, and to write clearly and correctly.
